چکیده

We present a TCP flow level performance evaluation on error rate aware scheduling algorithms in Evolved UTRA and UTRAN networks. With the introduction of the error rate, which is the probability of transmission failure under a given wireless condition and the instantaneous transmission rate, the transmission efficiency can be improved without sacrificing the balance between system performance and user fairness. The performance comparison with and without error rate awareness is carried out dependant on various TCP traffic models, user channel conditions, schedulers with different fairness constraints, and automatic repeat request (ARQ) types. The results indicate that error rate awareness can make the resource allocation more reasonable and effectively improve the system and individual performance, especially for poor channel condition users. key words: evolved UTRA and UTRAN networks, TCP performance, channel-aware scheduling algorithms, resource allocation, proportional fairness

Evaluating Multipath TCP Resilience against Link Failures

Standard TCP is the de facto reliable transfer protocol for the Internet. It is designed to establish a reliable connection using only a single network interface. However, standard TCP with single interfacing performs poorly due to intermittent node connectivity. This requires the re-establishment of connections as the IP addresses change. Multi-path TCP (MPTCP) has emerged to utilize multiple ...

UNIVERSITY OF CALGARY TCP-Aware Scheduling in LTE Networks by Narges Shojaedin A THESIS SUBMITTED TO THE FACULTY OF GRADUATE STUDIES IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF MASTER OF SCIENCE

Designing scheduling algorithms that work in synergy with TCP is a challenging problem. In this thesis, we focus on Max Weight (MW) schedulers and show that contrary to its performance with inelastic traffic, MW schedulers may not perform well in LTE networks in the presence of TCP traffic. We then design two new schedulers which both are based on MW. The first proposed scheduler, called Q-MW, ...

Efficient Control Channel Resource Allocation for VoIP in OFDMA-Based Packet Radio Networks

We propose an efficient control channel resource allocation approach to enhance the performance of voice-over-IP (VoIP) in orthogonal frequency division multiple access(OFDMA-) based next generation mobile communication systems. As the long-term evolution (LTE) of universal terrestrial radio access network (UTRAN), evolved UTRAN (E-UTRAN) is the first OFDMA-based packet radio network and thus s...

TCP-Aware Forward Error Correction for Wireless Networks

This paper studies TCP performance improvement in wireless and heterogeneous networks using Forward Error Correction (FEC) technique driven by TCP semantics. In the proposed scheme, called TCP-aware FEC, the amount of redundancy added to a packet at the sender node corresponds to the level of error protection and is computed as a function of TCP congestion window. The TCP-aware FEC becomes stro...
